Using Markdown to Take Notes
Semester 2 classes start January 9th for OSU and with 17 credit hours I will be busy. For the past year and a half, I’ve been using my iPad to take notes. While I enjoy being able to draw pictures instead of just writing words with my apple pencil, notetaking is a slow process. My lectures are getting increasingly focused and I figured I need a new way to take notes. I did some research and learned about the Markdown language which essentially converts it’s very basic syntax into well-formatted html. I can then export these files into PDF, html, JPG, and many other filetypes.
Above shows the Markdown code I wrote as a template. This code showcases some of the features of Markdown and builds a nice template to start from when taking notes.
Above shows what the code looks like when exported. My favorite parts of Markdown are the syntax highlighting in the code snippets and the overall ease of writing in the language. I type relatively fast which will make my notes more efficient than using an iPad. In addition, my notes will look much more formal and be very easy to share. I’m excited to put this to use!
